Bob's Got No Game

Bonjour,

So many adventures, so little internet access! We've just returned from southern Morocco, but first back to our summer travels... Expect a flurry of posts this week as I try to catch up, finally.

Back in Namibia, the night before we started our safari, Bob decided to eat zebra steak. This was not a popular decision among his family members, especially his daughter. Anna loves horses, and zebras are so similar. (FYI, Bob said that the zebra steak was not particularly distinctive or tasty).

The next morning as we drove into the park, Bob asked everyone what they thought they’d see first. Everyone made their choices, and I predicted zebras (in honor of the poor zebra who gave his life for Bob’s dinner the night before. I told Bob it was a karma thing). Bob then said that if the first animals we saw were zebras, he would give up eating game for the rest of the trip.

So you know what we saw first.

That night, at our lodge, the chefs were serving oryx steaks, cooked to order.

Bob had the chicken.

The second night, the chefs were serving eland steaks, again cooked to order.

Bob had the fish.

The third night, the chefs were serving kudu steaks, again cooked to order.

Bob, feeling fairly thwarted at this point, had the beef.

As soon as we left Etosha on the fourth day (en route to Botswana), Bob proclaimed that his self-imposed ban on (vow against?) eating game only applied to the time that we were actually on safari.

So a few nights later, when we stayed at one of the coolest “camps” ever, Roy’s Rest Camp (see our cool "tree house" and swimming pool below), Bob had the kudu steak.

He said it was really delicious. Il etait tres content.

A bientot,

Kim
